It's very pronounced and overwhelming when you are trying to taste the wine. When tasting Yellow Tail Shiraz we felt there was an immediate and somewhat harsh bitterness to the flavor. The taste lacks any red or black fruits and evolves into a burnt caramel flavor just prior to the tannins kicking in.
